Washington Metropolitan Transportation Authority (WMATA) soon will begin remodeling the Ballston-MU Metrorail station located on the Orange Line in Arlington County.

Designed to enhance access to the east end of the station and meet growing ridership demands, the $10 million project includes installing three new elevators along Fairfax Drive. An elevator on the north side of Fairfax Drive will provide access between the mezzanine and street level of the station. Two elevators will be installed on the south side of the street, along with an underground passageway to connect the elevators to the existing entrance.

"These enhancements will improve station access to support current and anticipated neighborhood development, improve pedestrian safety, increase convenience for persons with mobility requirements, facilitate intermodal transfers and encourage the use of transit," said WMATA board member Chris Zimmerman in a prepared statement.
