Virginia transportation commission to present 2006 goals

advertisement

Tomorrow, the Northern Virginia Transportation Commission (NVTC) will hold a public hearing on its proposed 2006 goals.

This year, the commission is trying to obtain dedicated funding for the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) by securing at least $1.5 billion in federal funds during a 10-year period and implementing a quarter-cent regional sales tax. In addition, NVTC seeks to lobby for significant increases in statewide transportation funding to meet current transit needs and prepare for ridership growth.

The commission also will elect its 2006 officers and appoint two northern Virginia representatives to the WMATA board.
