U.K. transport department to begin passenger-screening pilot program

advertisement

The United Kingdom’s Department for Transport plans to launch a pilot program to test SafeView’s Scout™ personnel screening system.

During the four-week trial, the department will randomly screen passengers traveling on the Heathrow Express, which runs between West London’s Paddington Station and Heathrow Airport.

The equipment uses low-power millimeter waves to monitor individuals for conventional and non-conventional weapons, explosives and contraband. Although not yet installed at a rail station, the system is employed at airports, military checkpoints, border crossings, courthouses and government buildings.
