The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey recently awarded a contract to Phoenix Constructors to serve as construction manager/general contractor for the World Trade Center Transportation Hub project.

A joint venture comprising Fluor Enterprises Inc., Slattery Skanska Inc., Bovis Lend Lease LMB Inc. and Granite Construction Inc. subsidiary Granite Construction Northeast Inc., Phoenix Constructors will finalize design and construction documents. Under a contract that could up worth up to $1 billion, the joint venture will review design drawings, examine value engineering and cost-savings opportunities, and provide detailed cost estimates.

Scheduled to begin early this year and be complete in 2009, the project includes constructing tunnels, and installing power, communications and signal systems, and climate-controlled platforms and mezzanines. A total of 13 Port Authority Trans-Hudson and MTA New York City Transit rail and subway lines will converge at the hub.
