The Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County, Texas (METRO) will proceed with a portion of its METRO Solutions Phase 2 Implementation plan. Announced last June, the plan calls for building five light-rail corridors.

The authority will begin preliminary work on the University Line, which would extend from the University of Houston’s main campus to the Galleria area. This spring, METRO will begin conducting an alternatives analysis, developing an environmental impact statement, preparing New Starts documentation and conducting preliminary engineering.

The authority plans to begin construction on the corridor in 2008 and launch service in 2012.
