Cleveland RTA considers implementing first fare hike in 13 years

The Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority (GCRTA) might soon end its 13-year streak of flat fares. At its March 21 meeting, the GCRTA board will discuss the possibility of a fare increase as a way to increase revenue to offset rising fuel prices.

If members agree to it, GCRTA will schedule public hearings for April and May. The hike could take effect around July 1.

The authority has projected deficits for 2007 and 2008 unless additional revenue is generated.
