MARTA to get a cut of local sales tax for operating budget

Last week, Georgia Gov. Sonny Perdue signed into law Senate Bill 115, which allows the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) to continue using an additional 5 percent of collected sales tax and the interest on the authority’s capital reserve accounts for operating purposes until 2008’s end.

The bill will provide MARTA about $45 million in additional operating funds during the next two-and-a-half years.
