Sacramento Regional Transit District provides South Corridor Phase 2 update

This month, Sacramento Regional Transit District (RT) will hold two informational meetings to provide an update on the South Sacramento Corridor Phase 2 project, which will extend light-rail service four miles from the end point of South Line Phase 1 at Meadowview Road to Cosumnes River College.

RT officials will present changes made to the plan since the last public meetings were held in spring 2003. In response to comments from the Federal Transit Administration, the agency is considering adding a new station at Morrison Creek, providing optional pedestrian access to the Morrison Creek and Franklin stations, and eliminating various design options.

The project currently includes stations at Morrison Creek, Franklin, Center Parkway and Cosumnes River College. The original proposal also included a station at Calvine/Auberry, but because of increased project costs, RT has instead identified Cosumnes River College as the line’s end point. The line could extend to Calvine/Auberry in the future.

RT plans to release the project’s Draft Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement in early 2005.
