Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) has installed a smart-card system on its Blue Line extension to Largo Town Center, which opened Dec. 18. The 3.1-mile extension’s facilities and parking lots now feature Cubic Transportation Systems Inc.’s SmarTrip® system.
Installed at the Morgan Boulevard and Largo Town Center stations and park and rides, the smart card-based fare collection system features ticket vending and fare machines, fare gates at rail stations, and parking devices at park-and-ride facilities.
As part of a regional smart-card initiative, 16 public transportation agencies are installing Cubic’s SmarTrip system in Washington, D.C., Maryland and Virginia.
