This spring, Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority’s (WMATA) Metro Transit police officers will take a training course designed to help them spot would-be terrorists and learn how to take action.

If WMATA’s board approves spending $60,000 of a U.S. Urban Areas Security Initiative grant at its March 16 meeting, 30 Metro Transit and regional law enforcement officers would take the course. The Behavior Assessment Screening System class will integrate behavioral analysis and law enforcement training to help officers observe and assess an individual’s behavior.

The eight-hour course also will teach officers how to conduct interviews with a subject to determine if the individual is a high or low risk.
