LA MTA approves $3 billion FY2007 spending plan

The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (LA MTA) board recently adopted a $3 billion budget for fiscal-year 2007, which begins July 1. However, the board will meet next month to consider at least $10 million in budget cuts and find ways to generate additional revenue to reduce a $110 million deficit, which will be offset mostly by reserves.

LA MTA increased its budget $174 million or 6 percent compared with FY2006 to fund additional rail and bus services. The budget includes $720 million for rail operating and capital costs, and $57 million to help subsidize Metrolink commuter-rail service.

LA MTA is building a six-mile Metro Gold Line extension from Union Station to East Los Angeles. In summer, the agency will begin constructing the Exposition light-rail line from downtown L.A. to Culver City.
