The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is closely monitoring the investigation of yesterday’s train bombings in Mumbai, India. Eight bombs detonated on commuter trains and station platforms during the evening rush hour.

However, there is no “specific or credible evidence suggesting there’s an imminent threat” to the United States or its transit systems, said DHS Secretary Michael Chertoff in a prepared statement.

The department has no plans to raise the terrorist threat level as a result of the attacks — which killed more than 180 and injured more than 700 people — but will work with U.S. transit agencies that choose to increase their vigilance, said Chertoff.
