Rail News: Rail Industry Trends
Today, Amtrak and the Wisconsin Department of Transportation will open a $6.8 million passenger-rail station at Milwaukee’s General Mitchell International Airport.
The 1,600-square-foot heated station features restrooms, a seating area, covered walkways, a 400-foot platform and a 300-space parking lot.
Amtrak and Wisconsin officials expect to attract northern Illinois residents by offering a more convenient connection to General Mitchell compared with Chicago’s O’Hare International and Midway airports. The station also will serve passengers using Amtrak’s Hiawatha service, which provides seven daily round trips between Chicago and Milwaukee.
