APTA panel recommends WMATA make improvements
advertisement
An American Public Transportation Association peer review panel recently reviewed Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority’s (WMATA) operations and recommended various improvements.
Panel members suggested WMATA operate fewer but longer trains, redesign passenger car interiors to help passengers board trains more quickly, add line supervisors, improve training programs, develop more stringent hiring requirements for train operators and station managers, and remove poorly operating trains from service immediately.
WMATA officials currently are reviewing or beginning to implement the recommendations. The panel comprised top officials from transit systems in London, Toronto, New York, Boston, Atlanta and Philadelphia.
