Earth Tech earns design award for Miami airport station

Engineering firm Earth Tech Inc. recently received a 2004 design award in the "unbuilt" category from the Miami Chapter of the American Institute of Architects for its design of the South Florida Regional Transportation Authority (SFRTA) airport station at the Miami Intermodal Center.

The station will be the first rail component of the intermodal center, which eventually will feature facilities for SFRTA, Amtrak and local rapid transit.

Earth Tech has been working on the center since 1993, when initial project development and environmental studies began.

The intermodal center project includes building an automated people mover station linking the transportation hub with Miami International Airport, a local and intercity bus facility, rental car facility, parking structure and elevated pedestrian walkway.
