GO Transit's Dias-Schimek receives recognition award

The Ontario committee of National Transportation Week, which recognizes Canadian transportation workers’ efforts, recently presented an Award of Recognition to GO Transit’s Debbie Dias-Schimek.
A GO Transit marketing assistant, Dias-Schimek received the award because she reported a driver who disobeyed a crossing signal near Agnicourt Station, striking the gate’s arm with his vehicle and damaging the arm.
Dias-Schimek, who was on her way home from work, witnessed the incident. She subsequently reported it, along with the driver’s license plate number, to GO Transit. The agency was able to track down the driver, who ultimately was charged with careless driving. And because GO Transit was made aware of the situation almost immediately, workers were able to quickly repair the crossing to prevent more incidents.
