German railway to operate separable commuter trains

Stadler Rail AG recently announced a German railway will begin operating its "Flirt" series commuter-rail trains northeast of Hesse next year.
Fourteen three-car and six four-car trains will operate between Kassel, Fulda, Bebra and Gottingen. The trains are designed to uncouple and re-couple several times during a trip. For example, a three-car train leaving Kassel would separate in Bebra, then reunite during the return trip.
Voith Turbo Scharfenberg will supply couplers for the trains.
