WMATA posts record ridership for 10th-straight year

The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) continued its decade-long streak of ridership gains in fiscal-year 2006. The agency carried a record-high 205.1 million passengers, up 5.3 percent or 10 million passengers compared with FY2005.

Average weekday ridership totaled 699,599 compared with 667,973 the previous year.

In addition, WMATA posted record ridership in June at 18.74 million. The previous monthly high was recorded in June 2005, when the authority posted 18.57 million passenger trips.
