Amtrak recently awarded a $4.7 million contract to Duos Technologies Inc. to install a security system along a Washington, D.C., track segment.

Under an Amtrak security pilot project, Duos will integrate several surveillance systems, including video analytics and radio frequency identification.

The pilot is part of the National Capital Region Rail Pilot Project, which is designed to improve freight-rail security in and around D.C. The project calls for installing a virtual security fence that will detect moving objects, perimeter breaches, foreign and removed objects, and loiterers along freight-rail tracks. Duos is designing and installing the system in conjunction with Epsilon Systems Solutions Inc.
