For the first time ever, the Tri-County Metropolitan Transportation District of Oregon’s (TriMet) Airport MAX Red Line carried more than 1 million passengers in a 12-month period. The agency tallies the ridership between Sept. 11 and Sept. 10, the day the line opened five years ago. Twelve-month ridership jumped 11 percent compared with the same 2005 period.

TriMet launched service on the initial 5.5-mile, four-station airport segment between Gateway Transit Center and Portland International Airport in 2001. In September 2003, the agency opened an eight-mile extension to the Beaverton Transit Center.
