CSX Transportation's highway diesel fuel (HDF)/mileage-based and West Texas Intermediate Crude Oil (WTI) fuel surcharges will rise in April because of escalating diesel costs.

The HDF/mileage-based surcharge — which applies to all regulated line-haul freight rates existing or established by CSXT on or after April 23, 2007 — will increase to 35 cents per mile April 1 compared with March’s 33 cents per mile surcharge. April’s per-mile surcharge is based on a HDF average price of $3.38 per gallon for the calendar month of February.

The Class I’s surcharge previously stood at 34 cents per mile in February and 35 cents per mile in January.

On April 1, CSXT also will begin implementing a WTI fuel surcharge — which applies to all regulated common carrier line-haul freight rates and charges with respect to exempt, contract, private or other pricing documents that don't reference the HDF/mileage-based surcharge — of 29.2 percent. The surcharge is based on the WTI average price of $95.35 per barrel for the calendar month February.

CSXT currently is applying a 28 percent WTI fuel surcharge in March. The WTI surcharge previously stood at 27.6 percent in February and 28.8 percent in January.
