Norfolk Southern Corp. recently received Toyota Logistics Services' 2007 President's Award for logistics excellence among rail carriers — the automaker's highest logistics provider honor.

The award recognizes overall performance in customer service, quality and on-time shipments. NS has won the President's Award five times since the program began in 1996.

Last year, the Class I moved 700,000 Toyota vehicles, including those originating from NS-served plants in Georgetown, Ky., and Lafayette and Princeton, Ind.

"Norfolk Southern's partnership with Toyota started in 1986, when the company opened its first U.S. plant in Georgetown," said Donald Seale, NS executive vice president and chief marketing officer, in a prepared statement. "We look forward to continuing to meet Toyota's high standards for excellence by providing safe, damage-free and on-time service."

NS also received Toyota's Excellence Award for On-Time Performance among rail carriers, the seventh time the Class I has achieved that honor.
