The National TRANSCAER® Task Group recently presented 2007 Transportation Community Awareness and Emergency Response (TRANSCAER) National Achievement Awards to BNSF Railway Co., CSX Transportation, Norfolk Southern Corp., The Dow Chemical Co. and Union Pacific Railroad.

TRANSCAER is a nationwide voluntary outreach program that aims to help communities prepare for and respond to hazardous-material transportation incidents. Volunteers include representatives from railroads, chemical producers, distributors, first responders and government agencies. The awards recognize "extraordinary achievements" that support TRANSCAER's initiative.

TRANSCAER is sponsored by the American Chemistry Council, Association of American Railroads, Chemical Educational Foundation, CHEMTREC®, The Chlorine Institute Inc. and National Tank Truck Carriers Inc.
