Santa Clara VTA to receive $3.3 million in state security funds

The Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) expects to receive a $3.3 million grant from the state of California’s Office of Homeland Security.

The funds will be provided through the California Transit Security Grant Program, which will is doling out $60 million worth of Proposition 1B funds under the state’s FY2007-08 budget. Approved by California voters in November 2006, Proposition 1B is a $20 billion measure to improve transportation infrastructure and security.

VTA will use the proceeds to purchase and install high-security fencing at its Cerone Operating Division, as well as closed-circuit television video on demand, laser intrusion detection systems and emergency security telephones at light-rail platforms and transit centers.
