The Watco Cos. Inc. now maintains operations in 24 states. The company recently began providing industrial switching services to Solvay Chemicals — Watco's first operation in the state.

The company expects to switch 30,000 carloads of soda ash annually for Solvay Chemicals, which produces soda ash, caustic soda, hydrogen peroxide and specialty chemicals.

"This location is a key strategic fit for Watco and we see strong potential for not only future switching operations, but other rail-related opportunities as well," said Mark Blazer, Watco's senior vice president of business development, in a prepared statement.

Watco owns 17 short lines operating in 15 states and provides industrial switching, rail-car and locomotive repair, and intermodal/transload services.
