San Francisco Muni unveils new maintenance facility
advertisement
The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) recently opened the Muni Metro East maintenance facility.
The 13-acre storage, maintenance and operations facility will support maintenance activities for the T Third Line, relieve overcrowding at the agency's existing Balboa Park light-rail facility and serve as the operating base for the Central Subway when it opens in 2016, SFMTA said.
Located near San Francisco's eastern waterfront and flanking the T Third Line, the 180,000-square-foot facility features a maintenance bay with elevated tracks to enable maintenance staff to work beneath light-rail vehicles. A storage yard is located outside the facility.
