Washington city green-lights Icicle Station project

The Icicle Station project is a go, city of Leavenworth, Wash., officials recently announced.
Initially proposed five years ago, the project calls for building a station along Amtrak's Empire Builder route in Leavenworth, which is located at the foot of the Icicle Canyon.
The city now will launch a capital campaign to raise $150,000 to combine with the $850,000 already committed for the station from various sources.
City leaders, along with HNTB Corp., Amtrak and BNSF Railway Co., have developed a station design. The city also has obtained site plan approval from BNSF. Groundbreaking is scheduled for spring 2009 and service to the station is expected to begin next fall.
