CTA to add energy-efficient lighting at facilities
advertisement
The Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) board recently approved funds to install energy-efficient lighting at several rail stations and facilities. The proceeds will be used to match grants being provided by the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO) and Illinois Clean Energy Community Foundation (CECF).
DCEO will award CTA a $438,598 grant to install energy-efficient lighting and fixtures at 11 facilities, including up to six rail stations. The lighting retrofit will cost about $1 million. CTA will use capital funds to finance the balance; however, the agency expects to reap immediate benefits in electricity cost savings of about $662,000 annually.
In addition, CECF will award CTA a $250,000 grant to install solar tracking skylights at two bus garages.
