LACMTA to consider four Eastside light-rail options

Later this month, the Los Angeles County Transportation Authority (LACMTA) board will consider adopting the Eastside Transit Corridor Phase 2 Alternatives Analysis study to advance a light-rail project in a 13-city area.

LACMTA staff has recommended four light-rail alternatives for further environmental review under a Draft Environmental Impact Statement/Report. Since summer 2007, the agency has worked with cities in the study area — such as Bell, Downey, Industry, Los Angeles, Montebello, Rosemead, Santa Fe Springs and Whittier — to identify potential corridor alignments. The agency also studied the feasibility of different transit modes, but chose light rail because of ridership projections, travel time and cost effectiveness.
