On March 19, the North Carolina Railroad Co. (NCRR) will host a forum on the future of the state’s freight- and passenger-rail service.

To be held at the McKimmon Center in Raleigh, “Progress in Motion: 2030” will feature presentations by experts from the freight, passenger and transit sectors, who will address the costs, benefits, environmental challenges and potential partnerships associated with expanding rail service in the next few decades.

Speakers include North Carolina Secretary of Transportation Eugene Conti Jr., former Gov. James Hunt, former Norfolk Southern Corp. Senior Vice President for Strategic Planning James McClellan, as well as officials from mass transit agencies in Charlotte, executives from NS, CSX Transportation and Amtrak, and business leaders, economic developers and local government representatives.

NCRR — which manages a 317-mile rail corridor between Morehead City and Charlotte — is hosting the forum as part of its 2030 long-range planning effort.
