The Raritan Central Railway L.L.C. is working with the city of West Memphis, Ark., and a local developer to create a logistics center offering transload, reload and crossdock services in the south-central region, according to the short line’s latest newsletter.

The West Memphis facility would be located across the Mississippi River from Memphis, Tenn., and between BNSF Railway Co.’s and Union Pacific Railroad’s mainlines. The center also would be near highway connections.

“Being involved in the design phase of the new center means that we have been able to assist the planners in developing a rail layout plan that will best serve the needs of the center’s 13 buildings, while providing additional infrastructure for rail-to-truck reloading, transloading and forward inventory positioning,” said Raritan Central officials in the newsletter.

The 17-mile short line currently serves the Raritan Center Industrial Park and Heller Industrial Park in Edison, N.J., and interchanges with CSX Transportation and Norfolk Southern Railway.
