BNSF to launch trackwork on Kansas/Missouri line
advertisement
Later this month, BNSF Railway Co. will begin upgrading a line between Fort Scott, Kan., and Springfield, Mo.
Estimated to cost $9 million and conclude in mid-April, the project calls for replacing more than 60,000 ties and 11.5 track miles of rail. Work will involve about 150 BNSF workers, who will use cranes, welders, ballast tampers and other equipment to replace rail at a rate of nearly one mile per day. Materials replaced on the line will be reused or recycled to meet BNSF’s environmental stewardship policies.
The Class I plans to spend about $2 billion this year to maintain and improve infrastructure and rolling stock, such as by refreshing track, signal systems, structures and freight cars, and upgrading technologies.
