• e-VERIFILE.COM Inc. announced that CSX Transportation has joined e-RAILSAFE, an industry-wide safety and security initiative launched in 2005. CSXT is the seventh major railroad to join the e-RAILSAFE program, which facilitates safety orientation, background screening, credentialing and tracking of railroad contractors and their employees.
CSXT now will require its contractors and vendors, and their employees who operate on the railroad’s properties, to comply with the program.

• AECOM Technology Corp. has obtained two contracts in India totaling $50 million. The company will provide design, project management, construction management and other services for passenger-rail projects in Chennai and Kolkata. The $3 billion Chennai Metro Rail project includes two lines totaling about 28 miles, 36 stations and a depot; the $1 billion Kolkata Metro Rail project involves work on the East-West line totaling about 11 miles and 12 stations. Both projects are scheduled for completion in 2015.

• General Electric Co. announced that its subsidiaries continue to grow a $121 billion services backlog with customers across the globe. GE Transportation is providing long-term services for more than 9,000 locomotives worldwide, including units in North America, Australia, Poland, China, Kazakhstan, Russia and Malaysia. Services include remote monitoring and diagnostics, and “e-Services” technology.

• ITT Interconnect Solutions has received International Railway Industry Standard (IRIS) certification for its operations in Lainate, Italy. The company supplies a number of connectors for the rail industry, including bayonet and high-temperature circular connectors, and junction boxes. Established in 2005 by the Association of the European Railway Industries, IRIS aims to develop and implement a global system with uniform language and assessment guidelines, and mutual acceptance of audits for evaluating rail industry suppliers.

• Engineering, planning and construction management firm STV has named Thomas Madison Jr. vice president and director of transportation policy. He most recently was administrator of the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Highway Administration. Madison previously served as commissioner of the New York State Department of Transportation and deputy secretary of transportation for former New York Gov. George Pataki.
