• In partnership with Alcatel Lucent Teletas, Thales won a contract from the Turkish Railways (TCDD) to supply a signaling and communication system for a 36-mile extension to two sections of the Ankara-Istanbul high-speed rail link. Alcatel Lucent Teletas will supply an integrated communication system and Thales will provide advanced signaling, including AlTrac ETCS and LockTrac electronic interlocking systems.

• AECOM Technology Corp. has obtained two high-speed rail contracts totaling more than $70 million. The company will provide environmental and preliminary engineering services to the California High Speed Rail Authority for the Altamont Corridor and Caltrain Corridor projects. AECOM will lead the $56 million contract for the Altamont Corridor, an 80-mile portion of a high-speed rail system that will connect the Central Valley to the San Francisco Bay area via the Altamont Pass. AECOM also will work in partnership with HNTB Corp. on a $16 million contract for the Caltrain Corridor, a 50-mile segment that will connect San Jose to San Francisco.

• Jacobs Engineering Group Inc. obtained a design frameworks contract from Crossrail Ltd. for the Crossrail project’s tunnels, shafts and central stations. Jacobs will have the opportunity to compete for packages of design work within the categories. Scheduled to open in 2017, Crossrail will serve as an infrastructure link for London and southeast England. The railway will run from Maidenhead and Heathrow Airport in the west to Essex and Kent in the east, traveling underground through the city center. Construction is scheduled to start in 2010.

• Affiliated Computer Services Inc. has named Dave Amoriell executive vice president and group president of its Transportation Solutions Group.  During the past 25 years, he served IBM and Lockheed Martin in various capacities, such as senior executive, general manager and business development executive. The Transportation Solutions Group provides public transportation technology services, including support for fare collection systems on various rail and bus routes.
