The Transportation Technology Center Inc. (TTCI) recently named Mike Cook manager of its newly named Security and Emergency Response Training Center.

He most recently was a supervisory special agent assigned as section chief of the EPA-Homeland Security Division’s operations section and National Counter-Terrorism Evidence Response Team. Cook has been involved in law enforcement since he began his career with the Colorado State Patrol in 1987, and been involved with hazardous materials and/or weapons of mass destruction response since 1990.

He previously served the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Hazardous Materials Response Unit as a hazardous materials officer and the EPA Criminal Investigation Division as a special agent.

As a new member of the National Domestic Preparedness Consortium, TTCI plans to continue expanding first responder training courses for surface transportation security.

Meanwhile, Virginia Gov. Timothy Kaine appointed Charles Badger director of the Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation (DRPT). He has served as acting director since Dec. 12.

Badger previously was DRPT’s deputy director. He has worked for the commonwealth the past 36 years and been a member of the management team for Virginia's rail and public transportation initiative since 1979.
