Union Pacific Railroad continues to derive safety and security benefits from an online program the Class I helped develop.

As part of the company's ongoing safety and security awareness efforts, Union Pacific has leveraged technology to provide enhanced benefits to the railroad and its contractors by implementing E-Railsafe.

The railroad uses E-Railsafe programs to boost safety and security at yards, shops and offices, and along track. UP’s “brainchild,” which now is used by other Class Is, is designed to ensure that third-party contractors working on railroad property complete rail safety training and security awareness courses, provide a photo identification credential and pass a criminal history check, the railroad said.

Developed by e-VERIFILE.COM, E-Railsafe also provides contractors a professional background check they can use to make employment decisions and a software program that can serve as a human resources employee documentation tool, UP said.
