• Stadler Rail obtained a $74 million order from the Denton County Transportation Authority for 11 GTW DMU 2/6 articulated power units. The contract includes an option for up to 25 additional GTW units. The trains will operate on the Denton-to-Carrollton, Texas, line. Stadler previously received an order for six GTW units for the Austin region’s transit-rail system.

• RailComm Inc. announced it provided a wireless remote-control derail system for the Indiana Harbor Belt Railroad Co.’s RIP track facility. A customized local control panel located in the shop provides wireless remote-control capabilities to the derails. The panel includes a keypad for security and logging functions. All control panel operations are recorded and stored on a wirelessly linked PC workstation, which enables supervisors, managers and other authorized personnel to review operation logs and manage system security.

• OPW Fluid Transfer Group has streamlined its four business units and eight global operations into two global business units: the Global Transportation and Global Chemical & Industrial units. The company appointed Tom Zant vice president to head the Global Transportation unit, which includes the Global Rail and Global Cargo Tank/Truck business units. OPW also named Kevin Cook director of the Global Rail unit; Simon Hill, director of the Global Cargo Tank/Truck unit; Dan Taylor, site manager of the Kansas City, Mo., manufacturing operation; Jeff Reichert, VP to lead the Global Chemical & Industrial unit; and Greg Carrino, director of sales and marketing for the chemical unit. The reorganization will better align resources and improve customer service, the company said.

• Bombardier Inc. reported consolidated revenue of $4.5 billion for its first fiscal quarter — which ended April 30 — compared with $4.8 billion in the first quarter of the previous fiscal year. Net income totaled $158 million vs. $229 million in the prior fiscal year. Bombardier Transportation's revenue fell slightly year over year from $2.4 billion to $2.3 billion. Order intake dropped 50 percent to $1.2 billion, but Bombardier Transportation's backlog stood at $25 billion on April 30 compared with $24.7 billion on Jan. 31.

• Logistick Inc. announced its Super Wedge XL device has been certified by the Association of American Railroads’ Damage Prevention and Freight Claim Committee for securing rail intermodal shipments. Logistick provides blocking and bracing devices, packaging enhancers and other damage prevention products to the freight and transportation industries.

• Bird-X Inc. announced it received an A-plus rating from the Better Business Bureau. Bird-X provides humane pest and bird repellent products to the rail industry and other markets.
