Illinois commission OKs two grade crossing upgrades

The Illinois Commerce Commission (ICC) has approved plans to upgrade two Union Pacific Railroad grade crossings in Huntley.
To be completed by June 2010, the projects totaling $417,400 call for installing automatic flashing light signals and gates, event recorders and remote monitoring systems, and improving highway approaches.
The ICC will cover 95 percent of project costs for one crossing and 85 percent of project costs for the other. The village of Huntley will provide 10 percent of project costs and UP will cover the remainder, as well as all operating and maintenance expenses.
