• Vossloh Fastening Systems (China) Co. Ltd. has won a “megacontract” from China’s Ministry of Railways to provide rail fastener systems for a majority of the Beijing-to-Shanghai high-speed rail link. Deliveries are scheduled for between 2009 and 2011. Agreements will be signed within the coming weeks, Vossloh said.

• An Ansaldo STS/AnsaldoBreda consortium obtained a $303 million contract from general contractor Saudi Binladin Group to design, build and install an automatic metro system for Princess Noura Bint Abdulrahman women’s university in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Ansaldo STS’ share is $207 million. The contract gives Ansaldo STS a foothold in the Saudi Arabian market, one of the most active in the rail and metro transport sector, the company said.

• Tideworks Technology® Inc. obtained a contract from United Kingdom rail operator Freightliner Group Ltd. to deploy its intermodal planning and automation systems at various trial terminal sites. Tideworks also will adapt the systems to accommodate local business practices and government regulations.

• Affiliated Computer Services Inc. (ACS) has renewed a contract with Railinc for three years to provide information technology (IT) services valued at $14 million. Since 2002, ACS has provided Railinc a range of IT services. Under the renewed contract, the company will continue to provide network operational services, mid-range and mainframe system operations services from ACS data centers, and disaster recovery/business continuity and testing services.

• SBB obtained a contract from the Swiss railways to implement Intergraph®, an infrastructure management system designed to geospatially capture and manage assets. The project will result in the largest geographic information system in Switzerland, SBB said. The company will build an inventory for all spatial and property-related assets concerning the construction, planning, maintenance, renovation and operation of Swiss rail infrastructure. The railway operates 9,000 trains daily and maintains more than 1,800 miles of track and 5,200 facilities.
