• GE Transportation has been awarded a contract by Canadian Pacific to equip 200 locomotives with its Trip Optimizer fuel savings product. Terms weren’t disclosed. An energy management system designed to optimize fuel consumption based on a specific train’s makeup and the route traveled, Trip Optimizer was tested on 18 CP-owned GE Evolution® Series locomotives. CP-measured results on intermodal freight of various train lengths showed fuel savings ranging from “6 percent to more than 10 percent depending on territory,” said Pierre Comte, President of GE Transportation Intelligent Control Systems, in a prepared statement. Additional versions of Trip Optimizer for use on other locomotive types will be available beginning in 2010, GE said.

• BASF Professional Vegetation Management (ProVM) recently appointed Mitch Blair and Steve Mishler as sales specialists. Blair will support customers in the Midwest region, which includes Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri and Wisconsin. Mishler will serve the Florida region with current sales specialist Chris Key.
