CPR begins hauling nuclear reactor head to South Carolina

Today, Canadian Pacific Railway expects to begin moving a 78-ton nuclear reactor vessel head from Cambridge, Alberta, to Seneca, S.C., on a heavy-duty, 12-axle, depressed-center rail car.
Shipped by Babcock & Wilcox Canada, the reactor head has been welded to the car frame to prevent shifting. CPR will handoff the shipment to Norfolk Southern Railway and CSX Transportation, which will complete the 528-mile, two-week move to Duke Energy's Oconee Nuclear Station.
Last year, CPR reorganized its sales force to capture more of the heavy-machinery transportation market.
"Canadian Pacific Railway has a very good track record of being able to move dimensional pieces safely and efficiently," said Michael Dixon, CPR account-manager-machinery, in a prepared statement.
