advertisement

Last week, the Illinois Commerce Commission (ICC) approved upgrades to two grade crossings and allocated monies from the Grade Crossing Protection Fund (GCPF) to cover 95 percent of project costs.

The commission approved the installation of automatic flashing light signals and gates, and improvements to highway approaches at a BNSF Railway Co. crossing near Galesburg. Estimated to cost $518,729, the flashing light signals and gates portion of the work mostly will be funded by GCPF dollars. BNSF will pay remaining expenses and cover all future operating and maintenance costs.

The ICC also approved the installation of automatic flashing light signals and gates, and improvements to highway approaches at a CN/Illinois Central Railroad Co. crossing near Thomasboro. Estimated to cost $155,220, the flashing light signals and gates portion of the work mostly will be funded by GCPF dollars. CN/IC will pay remaining expenses and cover all future operating and maintenance costs.
