Gov. Quinn tabs Flores to chair Illinois Commerce Commission

Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn recently appointed Manuel Flores chairman of the Illinois Commerce Commission (ICC), which oversees rail safety in the state. If the Illinois Senate confirms the appointment, Flores would become the commission’s first Latino chairman, Quinn said in a prepared statement.

A Chicago alderman since 2003, Flores previously served as a prosecutor in the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office.

The ICC manages the Grade Crossing Protection Fund and oversees crossing modifications and improvements; investigates crossing accidents; inspects all track in the state; and oversees rail hazardous-material shipments.
