BNSF beefs up domestic container services

Yesterday, BNSF Railway Co. announced it recently reduced transit schedules on 60 percent of its domestic premium container traffic and added 16 more days of service overall.

The service changes include reducing transit time by seven to 10 hours on the Transcontinental intermodal route between Los Angeles/San Bernardino, Calif., and Chicago, providing customers morning availability and same-day delivery. BNSF also reduced transit time between Memphis, Tenn., and L.A. by four to six hours, and increased inbound and outbound day-of-week frequency for Houston service.

The enhancements build on 77 changes the Class I made to its domestic intermodal service last year, which reduced transit schedules by 300 hours and added 32 days of service frequency, BNSF officials said in a prepared statement.

“These changes are a direct result of feedback from our domestic carrier customers on what they need to attract more over-the-road freight to a truck-rail intermodal solution,” said BNSF Vice President of Domestic Intermodal George Duggan.
