The Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) has appointed Robert Lauby as the Office of Safety’s deputy associate administrator for regulatory and legislative operations.

Lauby, who will assume the post March 28, has more than 30 years of experience in railroad safety and regulatory affairs and has managed national and international-level programs for the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and FRA. He helped design and test brake systems for Amtrak and high-speed rail systems, and develop and manage the NTSB’s National Railroad and Rail Transit Safety Program.

Lauby is the FRA’s leading expert on positive train control deployment. He has worked on initiatives related to the Rail Safety Improvement Act and was co-chair of the Railroad Safety Advisory Committee General Passenger Safety task force.
