Norfolk Southern Corp. recently announced that 46 chemical shippers will receive the company’s Thoroughbred Chemical Safety Award for 2009.

The award recognizes shippers' efforts to safely handle hazardous materials. The award is presented to a company or facility that ships more than 1,000 carloads of hazardous materials without incident in a given year.

In 2009, 38 companies and eight plants reached that goal, according to NS.
