CSXT partners with Kentucky to boost rail security

When CSX Transportation forged a rail security partnership with the states of New York and New Jersey last month, the railroad hoped the joint venture would serve as a model for similar ones with other states. It did for Kentucky.

Yesterday, CSXT announced it formed a rail security partnership with the Bluegrass State to share information, resources and strategies to better protect communities along the Class I’s lines.

The Class I will provide Kentucky security officials with access to its online Network Operations Workstation system to track the location of trains and monitor rail-car contents in real time. CSXT security professionals also will be available 24/7 to work with state officials and law enforcement officers on joint rail security training and preparedness exercises.

“We’re pleased to be the first railroad and first private industry to formalize a security partnership with the Kentucky Intelligence Fusion Center in order to jointly safeguard both the communities we serve and our ability to move goods so critical to the economy,” said Skip Elliott, CSXT vice president of public safety and the environment, in a prepared statement.
