• Russian Railways has contracted the joint venture of Siemens and Sinara Group to supply 221 electric freight locomotives. Under the agreement, the first prototype is scheduled to be ready by December. After testing and certification, 11 locomotives will be delivered in 2011. The order is scheduled to be completed by 2016.

• HDR named John Haussmann vice president and principal project manager. He will focus on major transit projects in California and throughout the western United States. Previously, Haussmann was the regional transit manager for PBS&J’s west and central regions.

• Bombardier Transportation has been contracted by Augsburg Transport Authority to install the contactless and catenary-free Bombardier Primove system for trams as part of a pilot project in Augsburg, Germany. The system will be installed on a 0.5-mile section of Line 3 to the Augsburg fairground. Installation work will begin in summer.

• VAE Nortrak North America Inc. has received Metra’s master purchase agreement for rail. The 18-month master purchase agreement covers 115RE and 136RE AREMA rail. VAE Nortrak will ship 64,000 lineal feet of welded rail to Chicago for this season’s welded rail laying program.

• DB Schenker recently introduced its new hangartner service, which combines truck and rail services. Pick-up and delivery services will be handled by truck, while rail will handle freight consignments for the main portion of a move.

• The TTX Co. supplier evaluation committee has named Columbus Castings a TTX Excellent Supplier for 2009 — the third consecutive year Columbus Castings has received the designation.

• ISIS Consultants L.L.C. has named Jeffery Dugard to its senior signal engineering team. A former member of the U.S. Air Force, Dugard has worked in the signal industry for the past 17 years.
