Tomorrow, Union Pacific Railroad plans to present the first Union Pacific Safety Spike award to the Atchison County, Kan., sheriff's department.

The Class I created the award to recognize an individual or group who “go above and beyond the call of duty” to promote rail safety in a community, according to UP.

The railroad is recognizing the sheriff’s department’s efforts to promote and enforce grade crossing and pedestrian safety.
