Sen. Patty Murray (D-Wash.), who chairs the Senate Transportation, Housing and Urban Development (THUD) Subcommittee, recently announced she secured $2 million in the fiscal-year 2011 THUD appropriations bill for the Northern Columbia Basin Railroad project at the Port of Moses Lake, Wash.

Last year, the state of Washington provided $2 million for the Columbia Basin Railroad’s project, which calls for building a rail segment near the port and Grant County International Airport, and upgrading an existing track segment.

“This rail extension will ease some of the trucking congestion now being experienced on Interstate 90," said Port of Moses Lake Board President Michael Conley in a prepared statement.

The THUD appropriations bill will be considered by the Senate’s full Appropriations Committee.
